LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – The Finance & Personnel Committee approved funding Thursday night for security cameras in all three parking ramps.
The committee agreed to pay for cameras in each ramp. The investment though is not a new expense, as the money to pay for the cameras comes from a parking fund established in 2011.
The cameras won’t cover every part of the ramp, but Committee Chair Audrey Kader said the cameras should offer many benefits.
“The very presence of cameras, to some degree in itself, causes people to behave a little bit better. If people are misbehaving, the cameras will be able to be used for evidence,” Kader said.
Kader said she expects the cameras to help reduce vandalism and littering in the ramps. Last week, the city’s parking board agreed to activate pay stations in all three ramps on April 21st, and fees will begin to apply as of April 22nd.
