LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - WXOW honored community members for their public service at the third annual Jefferson Awards banquet Thursday night in La Crosse.
The awards are considered the Nobel Prize for public service.
Of the 12 winners from 2013, Karen Vogt was chosen to represent the La Crosse area in Washington, D.C. where she'll compete in the national competition.
Karen volunteers most of her time at Gundersen Health System where she's logged more than 1,500 hours. She also works with area children through the YWCA's Casa for Kids program. She believes that everyone has something to offer. " We don't all do things the same. Not everyone can run around talking to people like I can. That's easy for me. It's not easy for other people, but you can do other things. Like read to someone, go into a home, see if you can help them with just a little something. You know it is very easy to do."
WXOW congratulates Karen Vogt and all of our local recipients for their service to the community.
