Sparta High School Band receives special visit from the 85th Army Band

SPARTA, Wis. (WXOW) - Sparta High School got a few "notes" Friday from a unique group.

The 85th Army Band spent the day with band members at the school to teach students about the history behind the band and how music can be incorporated into a service members' role.

The army band is based out of Arlington Heights, Illinois but they travel around the states performing at different venues including the St. Patrick's day parade in Chicago.

Chief Warrant Officer, Kimberly Ferrante, says it's a great opportunity for the band to use their skills and give back to students.

"We're here to help people understand that the United States military is not just about war and turbulence and conflict.  The universal language of army bands and the mission is to foster support from our civilian communities and the best way to do that is to look at our future and our future are the students that are in this school," says Ferrante.

The 85th Army Concert Band and music performance teams perform Friday night at Sparta High School and will perform at Tomah High School on Monday night at 7:00 p.m.
