UW-L hosts "bouldering" competition

La Crosse, Wisconsin (WXOW) -  UW-La Crosse hosted a rock climbing competition today which featured roughly 80 competitors from Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa.

The bouldering competition consisted of climbing without any sort of ropes.

It was one of six events in the Wisconsin Indoor Climbing Series.

Although college student are the predominant competitors, anybody is welcome to compete in the series.

UW- La Crosse Rec Staff put together 70 different rock climbing routes this past week to prepare for today’s competition.

Nathan Barnhart, Assistant Director of Rec Sports says, "Our staff is so passionate about it, you can tell that they just love climbing so much and love sharing and climbing, and the amount of time and effort that they put into this.”

The series began in January and will finish next Saturday.

Winners at the youth, beginners, intermediate, and advanced levels will receive custom made medals and outdoor climbing gear from Adidas Outdoor and Goal Zero among other sponsors.
