Oktoberfest wants nominations for 2014 Parade Marshals

La Crosse, Wis – Oktoberfest USA is now accepting nominations for Parade Marshals who will be part of the 54th celebration of one of the Midwest’s largest community festivals.

Since 1961, the Maple Leaf Parade Marshal has presided over what is likely the largest gathering of residents and guests in the La Crosse community. The Maple Leaf Parade was added in 1971 and is unique in its presentation and pageantry as a night-time parade. In 2014 Oktoberfest will begin with the Torchlight Parade on Thursday evening, September 25. The Maple Leaf Parade will follow on Saturday morning, September 27.

The men and women who make up the past Parade Marshals group remain active in the community as both individuals with their respective charities and endeavors and as a representative group within the larger Oktoberfest family.

Nominees for Parade Marshals must:

·         have contributed positively to the good of the community through leadership and outstanding accomplishments,

·         be of good character that is well-respected,

·         be well-known, well-liked, friendly, outgoing, and has a good personality, and

·         live within 20 miles of La Crosse.

A nomination form is available via the Oktoberfest USA web site. Completed nomination forms must be returned to the Oktoberfest office no later than 4pm on Thursday, May 1.

The 2014 Parade Marshals will be revealed at the Parade Marshal Announcement event that will take place in September, prior to Oktoberfest (exact date to be announced).
