TOMAH, Wis. (WXOW) - A mistake on election night has reversed the result of the school referendum in Tomah.
Officials in the Town of Grant accidentally transposed the numbers which changed the total from 55 to 21 in favor to 56 to 21 against. The Town of Clifton also initially reported incorrect numbers. Their totals went from 42 to 27 against to 21 to 19 against.
What the changes in numbers means is that the referendum failed by 25 votes, 1530 no to 1505 yes.
The school district had asked voters to approve an override of state revenue caps by about two and a half million dollars over three years.
Cindy Zahrte, Tomah Schools Superintendent called it an honest mistake.
She said the district will now look for potential budget cuts..
