Injuries Hurting UW In Spring Football

Madison (WXOW) -- The good news for Wisconsin football fans is there is 143 days until the 2014 football season begins. The bad news is that every day might be necessary as coach Gary Andersen says his team is nowhere close to game ready.

Part of the problem for Wisconsin is injuries at the wide receiver position. Reggie Love and A.J. Jordan were both back for the team's open scrimmage but bother were limited participants. The lack of healthy bodies has slowed down the offense's development according to Andersen.

"The numbers are very thin there and those kids are taking a ton of reps. I'm proud of them, they're fighting like crazy but we're still way down," says Andersen. "It's hard to run a four wide receiver offense in those situations when you get into third downs and there's four total, five total wide receivers. Those kids run out of gas pretty quick. We want to protect them and allow them to compete and still stay somewhat fresh. It's a juggling act but that's spring football."
