LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Construction on I-90 from the Town of Campbell to Theater Road in Onalaska may cause delays in traffic, but officials at WisDOT say they plan to alleviate that stress as much as possible.
Road construction for the entire project begins in May and ends in 2018.
This construction season on I-90 will end on September 24.
Construction this year includes widening the interstate in preparation of the construction planned for Exit 3 onto Rose Street, La Crosse.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation plans to widen the interstate by adding an additional lane off the shoulder of the road to compensate for high traffic.
Eventually, Exit 3 will be reconstructed into the conventional “diamond” interchange with intersections controlled by traffic lights.
Both on and off ramps on Exit 3 are being reconstructed due to high safety risks of traffic crossings and recent flooding.
New pavement is also coming to the intersection of George and Rose Streets.
The entire project is projected to be about $70 million which is primarily funded by the federal government and the transportation budget.
This construction season is projected at $5 million.
During construction, the one lane roads will be temporarily widened at peak times to two lanes.
Peak times are as follows:
Monday - Thursday-2:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m.
Friday-12:00 p.m-7:00 p.m.
Saturday, No peak hours
Sunday-12:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.
