Whitehall (WQOW) - Fire crews spent all night putting out a fire that destroyed a feed mill in Whitehall.

It happened at the Larson Agri Services feed mill in Whitehall late Wednesday night. Whitehall Fire Chief Jeremiah Pientok says the fire started in a feed storage area in the front corner of the building, which was fully functional and in use. Crews say there was an electrical panel in that area of the building.

Chief Pientok says the fire escalated rapidly due to very dry wood and extensive grain dust in the 100-year old building. Wind also helped to fuel the flames.

Around 80 firefighters were called in to put out the fire, using around 300,000 gallons of water.

At 2 a.m. Thursday morning, an excavator dismantled the building to completely put the fire out. Crews were able to leave the scene at 3:30 a.m.

Chief Pientok says he doesn't believe the fire is suspicious, and says he's not sure if they'll ever determine what caused the fire because of the extensive damage to the building.
