Students get in money shape at financial fitness event

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW)- The focus of an event on the Western Technical College Campus in La Crosse Thursday was is to help teens make smart personal financial decisions.  This program is part of Money Smart week.

Bryce Bartruff, personal finance expert, was a guest speaker at the event.  He helped teens understand how to become financially independent.  Some of his tips included how to manage student loans, control spending, managing a personal budget and more.  Bartruff said, "Finances is in an area in which people don't like to talk but it creates extreme stress in almost every family. So what I try to do is bring on board the various principles that will help people feel comfortable with their finances so it doesn't become an issue any longer."

Bartruff speaks at Viterbo University on Friday, April 11 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at their School of Nursing Building in Room 196.

He will also be holding his two-part Financial Fitness Workshop at Bethany Evangelical Free Church at 3936 County Road in La Crosse.  The cost is $20 per individual or $30 per couple. The first part of his workshop is Friday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m., with the second part on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
