Hand grenade found in Hillsboro lot

HILLSBORO, Wis. (WXOW) - The discovery of an old grenade caused a bit of commotion in the village of Hillsboro in Vernon County.

A couple cleaning up an empty lot discovered the Vietnam era "pineapple grenade" Tuesday. They called police who called the Madison bomb squad.

The bomb squad could not determine whether the grenade was live or not. So they removed it and safely disposed of it.

Vernon County investigators believe the grenade was buried underground for some time and that frost pushed on to the surface this winter.

No one was injured.
