Pinwheels for Prevention

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW)- Pinwheels for Prevention is the kickoff event for National Child Abuse Prevention Month.  Children and adult volunteers planted 1,500 pinwheels.  One for each child that has been involved in an abuse or neglect report in La Crosse County just this past year.

Stepping Stones child advocacy center, a program of Family and Children's Center, and the Coulee Region Child Abuse Prevention Task Force and the Gundersen Health System hosted this event.  It signals the beginning of a month long effort to prevent child abuse and neglect in the region.  The effort will include education, training and awareness throughout the month of April.

The pinwheel is a symbol of hope, safety, health and most importantly happiness.  It signifies the efforts to change the way our community thinks about prevention.
