Student Mural Artists Exhibit Work

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) -- Have you wondered what that mural planned for the west wall of the Pump House will look like? You'll still have to wait two months to see the final product, but you could see the style during an event at the UW-La Crosse this week.

The UW-L School of Arts and Communication is sponsoring the annual event called "Creative Imperatives" to showcase both the process and works done by their students. Two of those students are the apprentices who worked with internationally renowned muralist John Pugh on the mural to be installed on the Pump House wall.

"I feel like this mural is something that will incorporate more artistis to be inspired to do more art," said Alyssa Shurbert-Hetzel.

Shelby Phillips said, "I felt like I was accomplishing something a little more, something the community will be interested in."

As part of their grant to work with Pugh, Shelby and Alyssa were working on their own mural which they hope to display somewhere in the community. The Pump House mural will be revealed as part of the first annual "Artspire" event on Friday, June 13th.
