Tornado drill scheduled for April 24

Posted:
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - A statewide tornado drill for Wisconsin and Minnesota is in the works later this month.

A mock tornado watch drill is planned for Thursday, April 24 at 1 p.m. At 1:45 p.m., a statewide tornado warning drill will be issued.

The National Weather Service says this is a good time for schools, businesses and families to practice safe procedures for severe weather.

NWS officials say the drill will take place, even if the sky is cloudy, dark and/or raining. If actual severe storms are expected in the state on Thursday, the tornado drill will be postponed until Friday, April 25. Timing will stay the same. In the event severe storms are expected on Friday, the drill will be canceled.

People will be notified of the change on http://readywisconsin.wi.gov/ or on Facebook and Twitter.
