LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) ---- Because most Catholics do not eat meat on Fridays during the season of Lent, the fish fry has grown into a Midwest tradition that attracts thousands to churches and restaurants.
Schmidty's in La Crosse has been hosting fish frys for almost 60 years.
Owner Bob Schmidt says they serve about 700 people.
"Good Friday is the busiest Friday of the year. I don't know what it is about Lent, but it brings everybody out for fish on Fridays," said Schmidt.
The most popular items on the menu on Good Friday is batter fried fish followed by pan fried fish.
