Roman soldiers stand guard outside Onalaska church

ONALASKA, Wis. (WXOW) - Since Friday, three Roman soldiers have stood guard outside Saint Paul's Lutheran Church. They are reenacting the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

"It is one of the the primary celebrations of the Christian Church here, and this is just an open invitation to come and celebrate what we consider one of the greatest events in the ministry of Jesus and his resurrection and what it means for us," said one of the soldiers.

Each soldier is on duty for 2 hours, 24 hours a day, leading up to the 6 a.m. mass at the church on Easter Sunday. After the service there will be a festival from 8-10:30 a.m.

A Non-Traditional Easter service will be at the Stoney Creek Hotel starting at 9 a.m.
