Holmen church breaks ground on new addition

HOLMEN, Wis. (WXOW) - The Halfway Creek Lutheran Church, just two and a half miles outside of Holmen, broke ground on Easter Sunday on an addition to their 100-year-old facility.

For more than 30 years the congregation has wanted to build an addition to the decade old building. Lifelong member John Daily, said, "In the past there were times we've wanted to grow and it just never worked out."

That's until one member decided to donate $100,000 but only if the congregation matched. "That inspired another member to donate $100,000 to match, and we've raised nearly, if not half, of what we need," said Daily.

A nearly 8,000 square-foot addition will create a main entrance where people can gather, put in elevators, a covered entrance, and improve classrooms for Sunday School among other things.

Pastor Jean Pagliaro said the new addition will serve not only the congregation but the entire community.

The inside of the Church will remain untouched and the outside will bring new life to a building that needs an update.

The church plans to start building the addition next month, with the hopes of having it complete for Christmas.
