Ducks call River Rocks Coffee Shop home

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Ducks in Riverside Park are not an unusual sight, but one pair have become regulars at the River Rocks Coffee Shop.

For the last four years Donald and Diva have migrated there.

Augie Weber, Manager at River Rocks said, "They like to come right up to the coffee shop and sometimes they'll tap on the window."

When the weather is bad, Donald and Diva will take shelter near the front door. Usually they just hang out, unphased by people walking by. Sometimes they will take a dip in the fountain.

Right now Diva is nesting, and they trade off protecting the eggs. Around six in the morning, they stop by for breakfast. River Rocks employees will feed them a game bird feed.

"It's a springtime ritual, we wait for them to come back and they're part of the family," said Weber. Employees know it's Donald and Diva each year because Diva has two holes in her beak.

Diva got her name because of her attitude, and Donald, well...because he's a duck. They usually stay in the area for about six weeks until their babies hatch. Weber thinks they will be here for another three or four weeks.
