Milwaukee man pleads not guilty to dogfighting

Posted: Updated:

MILWAUKEE (AP) - A Milwaukee man accused of being involved in dogfighting has pleaded not guilty to six charges.

Travis L. Hazlett was one of 13 people arrested earlier this month. Most face federal charges, in part for allegedly transporting fighting dogs across state lines. But Hazlett and one other Milwaukee man face state charges associated with training dogs and arranging their matches.

The 31-year-old Hazlett pleaded not guilty during a hearing Monday. He's due back in court May 22.

A message left with his public defender, Richard J. Johnson, was not immediately returned.

Hazlett was released Friday on cash bond of $2,500.

The other state defendant, Thomas S. Zollicoffer, is due in court Tuesday for a bail hearing. He's currently being held on $10,000 cash bond, and has also pleaded not guilty.
