Race will raise money to prevent youth tobacco use

Sparta, Wisconsin (WXOW) - The 2nd Annual Lung Bustin’ Justin 5K Trail to benefit the Monroe County Safe Community Coalition’s Youth Tobacco Prevention Program will be held on April 26th.

The event is hosted at the Justin Trails Resort near Sparta.

It is open to anyone over the age of ten, but those below 18 must have permission from a parent or guardian.

“Tobacco use kills 5.4 million people every year. That equals 1 death every 6 seconds, or during the average time it takes to run the Lung Bustin’ Justin race, the Village of Warrens would be wiped off the map from tobacco related diseases,” says coalition member, Ann Anderson. “We know that early intervention is critical, with almost nine out of ten regular adult smokers picking up their first cigarette before age 18.”
