Nicholas David and Dessa kicking off Winona's Mid West Music Fest

WINONA, Minn. (FOX 47) -- More than 100 musicians will be invading Winona this weekend for the Mid West Music Fest, and some events are kicking off Wednesday night.

The Mid West Music Fest puts Winona on the map for one of the regions major music festivals, and in the celebration of its fifth year it's bringing even more to the stage.

The festival has expanded to 13 different stages throughout the historic downtown area.

All venues are within walking distance of one another, and each spot provides a unique experience with some of the Midwest's greatest musical talents in a setting you don't typically associate with other concerts.

"Most music festivals you're kind of congregating in a football field or a main space with a couple stages," says MWMF managing director, Parker Forsell. "But this is very unique because it is in all these different places in the downtown so it's a lot of very intimate venues, much more intimate than a lot of these artists probably play in."

Organizers are taking the newest addition to the festival to the water this year, the Levee Stage, right alongside the Mississippi River.

Teams of production workers are also setting the stage for Wednesday night's preview performances by Twin Cities hip-hop sensation, Dessa at Broken World Records store. Crews were also preparing for 'The Voice' finalist, Nicholas David, who will be performing at Ed's No Name Bar, a place he has been performing at for years.

"You know, Nick's a really cool, very humble performer and person. So he seems pretty genuinely glad that's he's coming back to a place that he used to play a lot," says Ed's No Name Bar owner, Ed Hoffman.

David's 150-ticket pre-show sold out in two days at Ed's Bar. The staff expects a full house Wednesday tonight.

The festival also boasts headliners Lizzo, The 4ONTHEFLOOR, Caroline Smith, We are the Willows and John Mark Nelson.

Tickets are still available for the festival, you can get either one or three day passes.

The festival goes from Thursday, April 24th to Saturday April 26th.
