LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - The planned statewide tornado drills for Minnesota and Wisconsin will go on this afternoon, despite the stormy weather.  Severe weather is not in the forecast for today, hence the drills proceeding as planned.

At 1:00 p.m.  a mock tornado watch will be issued, followed by a mock tornado warning at 1:45 p.m.  Warnings will go out on television, radio, NOAA weather radios, and cell phone apps.  At that time schools and businesses are asked to practice seeking shelter.   The drill will end at 2:00 p.m. News 19 will be taking part in the drill.

The purpose of the drill is to help make sure you know what to do to keep yourself safe.  Please treat the drill as if the warnings were real, and assess what you need to do to be ready for an actual severe storm.  News 19 is running special coverage, Storm Ready, so help you prepare for this year's severe weather season.  Chief Meteorologist Dan Breeden has the the terminology you need to know for severe weather season, and Meteorologist Alex Kirchner let's you know what you need to prepare ahead of the storms.
