La Crosse Area ReStore Launches Campaign for new Building

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Habitat for Humanity La Crosse Area wants to purchase a building for the Habitat ReStore and they are asking for your help.

The Habitat ReStore, which opened in 2006, currently leases space at 434 3rd Street but they are in need of more space.

Habitat staff and volunteers began searching for a new home for the ReStore a year ago, and recently found a building that meets the store’s growing needs for more space and parking: the old Decker building, located at 3181 Berlin Drive.

Habitat for Humanity’s goal was to raise $1 million to purchase the new building by the end of May, but they still need $200,000.

“The Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers are already stepping up to put forward their support, but we need the community’s help to reach this goal," said Amanda Acklin, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity – La Crosse Area. "The ReStore has served a critical role in supporting the La Crosse chapter of Habitat for Humanity, helping keep still-useful items out of the landfill, and helping community members save money on their home construction and remodeling projects. Now, we need the community’s support to help keep the ReStore open.”

The ReStore collects new and used donated building materials, which are then sold at a discount to the public. All proceeds from the ReStore support Habitat for Humanity’s mission of ending poverty housing. Since 1992, the La Crosse affiliate of Habitat for Humanity has served more than 320 people, and this year will mark the construction of Habitat’s 40th home. Homes are built in partnership with partner families, thousands of community volunteers, other generous donors, and with financial or material support from the Habitat ReStore.
