LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - A candidate for the 3rd Congressional District has decided to drop out of the race.

Chris Anderson, 28, a former aid to Sen. Ron Johnson and an Army veteran, withdrew his candidacy.

He's now throwing his support behind Republican Tony Kurtz, also running for the seat, and stepped into the role as his campaign finance director.

In a statement, Anderson said it's important to unify the party and support one candidate.

Kurtz is running to unseat Democratic incumbent Ron Kind.
