Tree falls on Southside La Crosse house during storm

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Wind gusts reached as high as 45 miles per hour in La Crosse Sunday night.

Firefighters responded to numerous calls for downed power lines and one call for a tree that fell on a house. It happened around 10 p.m. at 2933 22nd Street South.

Two people were in the house at the time, but weren't injured. They say the 70 foot tree in their backyard fell onto their deck and parts of their house and their neighbor's house.

Caitlin McKevitt lives in the house and was inside at the time. She described it what happened. "We heard the loud kaboom, checked out the back door, saw that the tree fell on our house, our neighbors house, the deck, and then we heard gas leaking from our neighbors house and our neighbors called the fire department. They roped off our alley because we had a line down."

Their house lost power, so they spent Sunday night with family.

Monday is actually Caitlin's birthday. She said she hopes to get power restored quickly.

The storms that moved through Western Wisconsin knocked power out to several hundred customers throughout the region according to Xcel Energy and their outage map.
