LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – The La Crosse Health Department wants students to “Fire Up Your Feet” and get active before, during and after school.
It's a statewide challenge where students, grade kindergarten through 8, even parents and faculty, track their physical activity for the month of May.
The schools that log the most minutes, win a cash prize.
"We know that teaching kids to be active when they're young means that they're more likely to be active as adults,” said County Health Educator Virginia Loehr. “Also, it gives them a chance to encourage their parents to do it with them. So it also influences the parents and gets them to be physically active.”
To register, go to www.FireUpYourFeet.org.
Participants can also track their exercise there. First place wins $1,000, second place takes $500, and there's a $200 third place award. There are also different challenges each week where schools can win $100.
