LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – WXOW News 19 would like to congratulate Meteorologist Alex Kirchner.

The American Meteorological Society (AMS) has awarded him their Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation. This means Alex's work has been considered high quality by top meteorologists from around the nation.

In order for Alex to earn the CBM, he had to hold a degree in meteorology from an accredited college/university and had to pass a rigorous written exam. Upon passing the exam, his on-air work was reviewed by other CBM holders to rate Alex's graphical content, his presentation skills, his explanation of the weather and the science behind it. Furthermore, Alex has to maintain a professional development portfolio which means staying involved by attending scientific seminars, meetings and community outreach.

“The AMS recognizes that the public mainly interacts with broadcast meteorologists, and having an award like this helps ensure that the public is getting the very best on a daily basis, “ said Alex. “This is why the designation is such an honor for me, as other top meteorologists around the nation consider my work to be up to their high standards.”

Join us in congratulating Alex on this achievement. We are proud that he is part of La Crosse's Own News 19.
