GREEN BAY, Wis. (WXOW) Less than a week until the NFL Draft. But draft pundits have known for a while what the Packers primary needs are.
The general consensus is that safety and inside linebacker are positions of need. It was a revolving door at safety last season opposite Morgan Burnett. In fact, Packer safeties didn't record a single interception last season.
But Packers General Manager Ted Thompson cautions drafting simply for current needs can lead to trouble down the road."We feel like the draft is a long term investment. We don't get too carried away with our perceived needs are. We think that's poor business. Sometimes you can marry those things up, that's fine. But if you stretch to fill a 'need' then you end up messing up a couple of spots," Thompson said Thursday during his pre-draft news conference.
The first round is next Thursday. Rounds 2 and 3 are Friday and the draft wraps up next week Saturday with rounds 4-7.
