Volunteers celebrate Women Build Week

La Crosse, Wisconsin (WXOW)—Volunteers rolled up their sleeves to build a home in La Crosse.

The La Crosse Area Habitat for Humanity and Lowe’s teamed up in celebration of National Women Build Week to inspire women to devote at least one day to building affordable housing.

The 6th annual project is building a home on Farnam Street for a family of seven.

Volunteers created teams to build the home and fund raised individually as well.

This year the program expects to see 25 to 30 teams of volunteers and raise over $45,000.

Volunteer Coordinator, Bekky Mayfield says, "I think it’s important for people to see the need in this community; for people to have simple and decent affordable housing.”

More than 13,000 volunteers are expected to partner with 300 Habitat for Humanity affiliates across the country during this year’s Women Build Week.
