MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - The Republican Party of Wisconsin named La Crosse County the host of the party's 2015 convention.
The news comes on the heels of the La Crosse County Republican Party accepting the County of the Year award from the state GOP.
About 800 delegates are expected to fill the La Crosse Center next May.
Director Art Fahey said the event will bring the state's attention to La Crosse.
"It's a high profile event that we're happy to have. And it's always a bit prestigious to have one of these events -- like a big touring act," Fahey said. "So it's one of those events that gets a lot of attention and we're pleased to be able to host it in 2015."
Fahey said the La Crosse Center hosted the event back in 2009.
In a statement, Dave Clements, executive director of the La Crosse Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, said he's pleased the party chose La Crosse and is excited to see the economic impact on the area.
