Three local students honored by WIAA as Scholar Athletes

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WXOW) - Three area students are among 32 statewide who are selected by the WIAA as 2014 WIAA Scholar Athlete award winners.

The students were honored Saturday at a banquet in Wausau.

Central's Brittany Baldwin and Ben Thornton were two of the winners.  Mackenzie Swiggum of North Crawford was also an award winner.

According to the WIAA, the 32 winners, 16 boys and 16 girls across four divisions, had an average GPA of 3.85, while half had a perfect 4.0 GPA.

The group also earned a total of 308 letters, or an average of nine per student, during their high school athletic careers.

The finalists were chosen from among 825 seniors nominated by more than 425 high schools in Wisconsin.
