Teen expected to be OK after crash in Winona County

WINONA, Minn. (FOX 47) -- A teenager was airlifted to the hospital after a crash in Winona County.

The Winona County Sheriff's Office said the 16-year-old was driving on County Road 3 near Highway 61 south of Winona when he lost control just after 3 p.m. Monday.

His Grand Prix slid off the road and wrapped around a tree, uprooting it and coming to a rest on its roof.

The teen was extricated from his car and airlifted to Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.

“I called his mom this morning and he’s going to be OK,” said Winona County Sheriff Dave Brand on Tuesday.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
