Central students get hands-on experience in construction trade

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Students from Central High School got some hands on experience working with a variety of construction trades.

Carpenters Local 1143 hosted the workshop. Students got a chance to work with skilled trade workers such as carpenters, operating engineers, welders, and electricians. Each trade had a hands on work station to provide students an up close learning opportunity.

"We hope that they just learn something new that they didn't know about the construction trades. We know that a lot of them are interested in going into something and many of them don't know quite yet what they want to get into," said technology engineering teacher Nick Kalina.

"The schooling and apprenticeship programs and what we've got to do to get the job that we want and what we're really going to be learning in our trade specifically and what we got to know to be successful," said Central senior Tim Buchner.

Wednesday's workshop is the last part of the job shadow program at Central.
