LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - A ceremony Friday awarded members of the La Crosse County Sheriff's Department and citizens of the community.
They received honors for outstanding service to the community. Seven Sheriff's Department employees were recognized with the Department Career Achievement Award. Two jailers were awarded, one with a Certificate of Commendation, another with the Department Life Saving Award.
Two citizens, including Justin Briski received the Citizen Appreciation Award. Justin was driving on Highway 16 in West Salem last March when he saw a truck in a field, thought it looked odd so he pulled over and determined the driver had a heart attack.
Justin helped the officer on scene resuscitate the driver. Justin said, "I just believe that people need help at certain points in their life and that we are all called to action to help out when time is necessary."
The awards ceremony is held the Friday before National Law Enforcement Officers Week.
