Packers Take Hometown Player In Abbrederis

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - The Green Bay Packers added a little local flavor to their team.

For the first time in Ted Thompson's 10 years as general manager, he selected a Wisconsin product, drafting Badgers wide receiver/return specialist Jared Abbrederis with the 176th pick of the fifth round Saturday.

The pick is a popular one for Wisconsin fans since Abbrederis grew up in Wautoma, less than 100 miles from Green Bay, and walked on to Wisconsin.

Earlier in the day, the Packers used their fourth-round pick at No. 121 to take Arizona State linebacker Carl Bradford.

With the Packers' first fifth-round pick at No. 161, the team took Ohio State center Corey Linsley. At over 6-foot-2 and 296 pounds, Linsley will get a chance to compete for the Packers starting center spot after last season's starter Evan Diedrich-Smith left via free agency.

In the final two picks of the draft, the Packers selected Baylor cornerback Demetri Goodson at No. 197 of the sixth round. Saginaw Valley State wide receiver Jeff Janis went at No. 236 of the seventh round. It marks the first time the Packers have drafted three wide receivers since 2000.

The team used its first-round pick Thursday to select Alabama safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix at No. 21. The next day, the Packers took Fresno State wide receiver Davante Adams at No. 53 overall, Southern Mississippi defensive lineman Khyri Thornton at No. 85 and California tight end Richard Rodgers at No. 98.
