Vacant Winona home damaged in fire

WINONA, Minn. (WXOW) - A vacant Winona home is significantly damaged by fire Tuesday morning.

The Winona Fire department said they arrived at 154 High Forest Street, shortly after 6 a.m., to find heavy smoke coming from the second floor of the home. It took fire crews close to two hours to put the fire out.

Fire Chief Curt Bittle said it appears the fire started on the first floor, traveled up the walls into the attic area and second floor.  The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Bittle said no one was living at the home. 

The home has extensive heat, smoke and water damage.


WINONA, Minn. (KTTC) -- Firefighters are at the scene of a house fire in Winona.

The Winona Fire Department responded about 6 a.m. to 154 High Forest Street.

The home was empty when firefighters arrived.

Third Street in Winona is closed near Mankato Avenue as firefighters work to put it out.
