LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Ten individuals were awarded for their acts of heroism and public service to the city of La Crosse. These people were citizens and officers that helped save lives throughout the last year.
The purpose of the Awards Recognition Program is to, "properly recognize, through tangible and public recognition, acts of heroism, outstanding service, or exemplary performances by the officers of the La Crosse Police Department, as well as contributions by involved citizens."
The following individuals will be awarded:
Brian C. Christenson - Citizen Award of Excellence Dr. Tom Thompson, DVM - Citizen Award of Excellence Elijah Goldstein - Citizen Merit Award Frank Segura - Citizen Merit Award Gary Jahr - Citizen Merit Award John Tellier - Citizen Merit Award Pat Dovenberg - Citizen Merit Award Officer Nate Poke - Traffic Safety Award Officer Andrew Tolvstad - Superior Achievement Award Officer Brooke Privet - Life Preservation Award
National Police Week started when President John F. Kennedy declared May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day. Since then the week that the 15th of May falls on has been National Police week.
