LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - A community clean up event on La Crosse's Northside took place Saturday.
Members of the Logan-Northside Neighborhood Association helped residents move and dispose of old items.
David Dobbs started the Neighborhood Association seven months ago. On Saturday, about a dozen members helped residents do some spring cleaning.
Volunteers collected items from peoples houses, and disposed of them properly. It's a day for the community to come together to help clean up.
"We're just trying to bring together residents in the neighborhood and make a better community", said Dobbs.
It's the first time the association has done this and they say the need is great. But by handling it together, they hope it will strengthen the community.
District Two Council Member Dempsey Miller said, "We're going to help one another, we're going to stick together by any means necessary, we're not going to let folks fall by the wayside."
The clean up is part of a Northside initiative to begin revitalizing the community. Dempsey added, "The Northside, just like the Southside, needs some improvements."
It's just the beginning of what the association hopes will become something big. The Logan-Northside Neighborhood Association is still looking for more members. Their next meeting is Tuesday, May 27 at 6 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church on Sill Street.
