Plane bound for South Dakota crashes in Fillmore County

NEWBURG TOWNSHIP, Minn. (KTTC) -- A pilot from South Dakota is recovering after he makes a crash landing in Fillmore County Saturday.

The crash occurred around 2:45 p.m. The Fillmore County Sheriff's office says the man was flying from Wisconsin Rapids on his way to South Dakota, and was having mechanical difficulties.

He tried to land the plane in an open field in Newburg Township, but flew too low and hit crashed into some trees.The pilot then got out and walked to the highway.

We do not know the exact location of the crash, in fact police say it was so secluded that it took the pilot and several officers to relocate the plane.

The man was flying a small plane called a Preceptor Ultra-Pup. There's no details on the damage to the plane, however the pilot only suffered minor injuries and he was driven to the hospital.
