LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) The City of La Crosse's credit rating is on the rise, and that's good news for taxpayers.
According to Director of Finance and City Treasurer Wayne Delagrave, Standard & Poor's upgraded it's rating of the city from AA to AA+. The rating is only one notch below the top rating of AAA.
Just like a personal credit score, the higher a city's rating, the less a municipality will pay in interest. Delagrave says the credit upgrade means the city will be able to do more to improve infrastructure.
The upgrade is based on a "financial check list" that Standard & Poor's uses for credit ratings.
Delagrave says the city's new AA+ rating is it's highest since at least the late 1960's.
