Loggers Ready For Season Opener

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - The “Boys of Summer” are back.

The La Crosse Loggers opened up practice Sunday morning at Copeland Park.

Jason Nell is back at the helm for the Loggers for the second straight season.

Last summer, Nell led “the Lumbermen” to 43 wins, second most in franchise history.

"It feels awesome, I was so excited, I came up on Friday and I told the guys I would be here around 3 or 4 o'clock and I got here about 2 o'clock so I'm fired up,” said Nell.

Also back for a second summer is UW-La Crosse pitcher Ben Cejka.

Cejka threw 39 innings last summer while compiling a 1-3 record.

“I can’t wait to see the stands full of people just getting ready to roll (this summer),” said Cejka.

Joining him this year, is former Holmen teammate and current Eagle teammate, outfielder Taylor Kohlwey.

Both Cejka and Kohlwey are on 10-day contracts with the team that can be extended to full summer deals.

"It’s just awesome growing up here, growing up here seeing these guys play my whole life, it’s going to be cool playing in front of all these awesome fans,” said Kohlwey.

The Loggers open their season on Tuesday, when they take on the Wisconsin Woodchucks at Copeland Park.
