Witter Field in Wisconsin Rapids is ready to open its gates for the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters' opening day on Tuesday.
"Opening day, especially in the baseball world, opening day is like Christmas,” said Darren Besch, the outside ticket sales director.
Staff with the Rafters are putting the finishing touches on the ballpark for the opener.
"Whether that's blowing up our bounce house, cleaning that off and setting for our kid zone or painting around the ballpark," said Besch.
Workers have been preparing for months, and they say they're expecting a huge crowd for the big game. They've already had 1,300 people call for tickets.
"There's more excitement,” said John Fanta, the team's general manager. “Especially with the winter we had and the past couple of winters, and there's a lot of buzz and people are really excited to get out here and enjoy some baseball."
"Everybody's telling me they've got opening day circled and taking the day off, going to be out here early and supporting the team," said Besch.
Workers at the ballpark are feeling the excitement too.
"It's always an exciting thing to see all the former fans and the new fans coming to ballpark as well," said Fanta.
"Everybody's ready to get the season going,” said Besch. “The Rafters are big in Wisconsin Rapids."
The community is hoping for a great Rafters season, starting with a big win.
The Rafters game starts at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday against the Kenosha Kingfish.
