Dairy News: Moo-sical on stage again

Posted:
STEVENS POINT, Wisconsin (WXOW)- "Dairymen the Moo-sical" is hitting the stage again in Steven's Point this summer. The musical was recently performed in Kewaskum and Stoughton. Written by sisters Melanie Wiltse and Brenda Strack, a former dairy farmer, the musical  is designed to educate the public about life on a dairy farm in an entertaining way. "It is a comedy, and it is fiction, but we want it to be accurate enough that people can come in and they can leave with a realistic idea of what's really happening and some of the things that do happen in the milk house and in the dairy industry," says Melanie.

A new cast means new interpretations of the work, and having a retired dairy farmer in the troupe can make things interesting!
"I've already had to straighten them out on a few things here you know, make it a little more realistic, maybe a little bit more true to life shall we say!" says Mike Peplinski, who will play the role of Grand Pappy in the play.

The play will be performed in late May and again during Farm Technology Days in August and the playwrights are hoping it sparks interest in other communities. "That could be really important to the show just because there will be people here from a lot of different areas around the mid-west who will hopefully go home to their communities and maybe talk to somebody they know does theater and say, 'you should think about bringing this show to our community,'" says Melanie.

The play has two runs in Stevens Point at the high school performing arts center May 29th through June 1st, and again from August 10th - August 14th. Log on to www.dairymenthemoosical.com for show information and times or check out their Facebook page.
