LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) -- Some La Crosse students received a hands-on lesson about the mural being installed on the Pump House exterior.
Students from SOTA II and Coulee Montessori learned "The Art of Seeing" on Tuesday morning. They discovered both the trompe l'oeil style of muralist John Pugh, as well as how to see the connection between the art itself and the community.
La Crosse Arts Board member Eva Marie Restel said, "John spent a week here learning about the history of La Crosse. The mural is his interpretation of La Crosse--its past, its present and its future. So, if we all know what he learned, and know our story about La Crosse, then we know how to respond to the mural."
The session is part of the National Endowment for the Arts grant received to fund the mural.
