Runners help promote a Rushford-Peterson student's global passion at Global 5K

RUSHFORD, Minn. (KTTC) -- It was a beautiful day on Saturday for runners and joggers taking part in the Rushford Global Run 5K to support one special junior at Rushford-Peterson High school.
Lenora Powell will be heading overseas to serve as a student ambassador for People to People international, a group that promotes peace through understanding.
Saturday's race is to raise money to send her through Europe for the program.  Nearly a dozen runners took part in the race that was sponsored by Habitat for Humanity.

For Powell, it's a chance to learn from other cultures and make her history books come to life.

"We're going to the beaches of Normandy and I love studying World War II history, so I'm really looking forward to seeing that and just paying my respects to those people who died," says Powell.

Powell will be heading overseas on July 11th and will be back three weeks later.
