LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Part of Highway 33 in La Crosse is closed Sunday due to a sinkhole in the road according to the La Crosse Sheriff's Department.
The sinkhole is near the Hillside Animal Hospital at W5706 State Highway 33.
According to the Sheriff's Department, heavy rain and construction on highway caused the sinkhole. The north end of 33 has been closed for road work.
The Department of Transportation and County Highway Department are on scene trying to fill the hole.
The sinkhole is just one of the roads affected by the heavy rains on Sunday. The National Weather Service storm report showed that an area south of La Crosse got just under two inches of rain in a twelve hour period.
