Ethiopian students receive glasses

Posted:
YETEBON, Ethiopia  - (WXOW) An update on a story we first told you about in April.

News 19's Amy DuPont and photographer Mark Bronson traveled to rural Ethiopia with a team of healthcare professionals from Gundersen Health System.  The team worked at a children's home and hospital is Yetebon.

While there, the team helped screen students for vision problems. None of the nearly 1,500 students at Project Mercy wore glasses. The team found many of those students needed them. We are happy to report now some of those students now have glasses.

Volunteer teacher Meghan Smith sent this picture to the Gundersen team. Meghan received some grant money to take the kids with the poorest vision to see a doctor. She also raised enough money to purchase glasses for some of the kids. Meghan plans to continue to raise money for exams and glasses.
