Mayors display unveiled at La Crosse City Hall

La Crosse, WI (WXOW) -

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – La Crosse Mayor Tim Kabat said past mayors played an important role in molding the city—now, residents can see those former mayors’ images with a brief history of the city at City Hall.

Kabat, along with former City of La Crosse Mayors Matt Harter, Mark Johnsrud, John Medinger, and Patrick Zielke unveiled the historical mayors’ display on Monday inside the Council Chambers. The display recognizes not only individuals, but the people they worked with.

“Well, I think you are just kind of proud to be part of the community that’s inviting resources for people. That’s the main thing is you can do something to help individuals and collectively the city,” Zielke said.

Kabat said he is “fortunate” to serve as the current Mayor, and pleased that previous mayors have been recognized others have been recognized for their role.

Harter, who served as Mayor from 2009-2013, said the best part about serving as City Mayor was being able to work with “everybody” in the City.

“I enjoyed working with the number of people that I was able to work with and a diverse group of people that a Mayor does work with. It’s a very humbling experience, a tremendous honor, and really, the best four years I think of my life,” Harter said.

The display features images of all 41 of La Crosse’s previous Mayors, and it hangs on the south-side wall of the Council Chambers outside of the south conference room.
