LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - For many educators in the Coulee Region, work doesn’t end with retirement. And on Monday, the La Crosse Area Retired Educators Association celebrated just that, with lunch and an awards ceremony.
The association prides itself on community service, and many of the members spend countless hours volunteering. This annual event recognizes their contributions to the community.
“I have been blessed with having been able to work with wonderful, wonderful teachers and I know their dedication and I know so much of it is never recognized,” said Jerry Berns, Vice President of the La Crosse Area Retired Educators and Retired Principal. “And so anytime we can get together and celebrate our successes I feel good about that.”
During the event, the Wisconsin Retired Educators Association awarded a $2,000 scholarship to the La Crosse Health Science Academy. This money will support their work on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.
