7th Inning: Mike Nadratowski heads towards first. His ground ball scored Aaron Knapp to tie game at five
Cameron Balough's hit in the bottom of the 8th led to the Loggers winning run Tuesday night
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - It was starting to look like a another rough night for the La Crosse Loggers as they played the Wisconsin Woodchucks.
Their bats finally came alive in the last half of the game-enough so the team could snap their five game losing skid to beat the Chucks 6-5 at the Lumberyard Tuesday evening.
After spotting Wisconsin to a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the fifth, the Loggers' Cody Foreman and Aaron Knapp both had walks to reach base. On the second pitch from the Woodchucks Henry Weiler, Mike Nadratowski cracked the ball well clear of the right field wall to bring the team to within a run at 4-3. It was his second home run in three days for La Crosse.
The good feelings didn't last long as Paul DeJong hit a rope over the left center field wall to stretch the Chucks lead to 5-3.
The Loggers comeback resumed in the bottom of the seventh when Aaron Knapp singled home Nick Kanavas to make it a 5-4 contest. Knapp would eventually end up at third after a pickoff throw to first by Wisconsin's Matt Lambert went wide of the mark. That brought up Nadratowski, who hit into a 4-3 putout. It was enough though, to score Knapp from third to tie the game at five.
After the Chucks failed to score in the top of the eighth, Cameron Balough hit a single to start off the Loggers half of the inning. Jerrod Bravo then came in to run for Balough at first. A sacrifice by Taylor Kohlway moved Bravo to second. Then Bravo moved to third on a Lambert wild pitch. He scored on the next batter, Marc Frazier, who hit into a 6-3 putout at first.
La Crosse stepped up the defense in the top of the ninth. Pitcher Breckin Williams got the first batter, Brendon Hayden, on a swinging strike out. CJ Chatham made things interesting when he reached first on a dropped third strike. The game ended on a double play turned by shortstop Sulliam Rios-Reyes, who crossed second to get Chatham for the second out, then threw to Marc Frazier covering first to putout Ryan Donovan to end the game.
The win gives the Loggers a 3-5 record on the season. La Crosse is on the road Wednesday for a game against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters Wednesday evening at Witter Field. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
